• Knoxville Free to Breathe 5K Run/1 Mile Walk uniting people who are passionate about fighting lung cancer, is Saturday, Oct. 16, in Village Green subdivision, Jamestowne Boulevard, Farragut. • Annual Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee, which will kick off its 21st year with a seven-day ride beginning Sunday, Sept. 12. • Carson-Newman College men’s soccer midfielder Ben Backstrom has been named preseason All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team. A big part of Farragut High School’s 2007 Class AAA state title, Backstrom tallied four goals four assists for C-N last season.

• Farragut Baseball, Inc. is about to conclude its inaugural season sponsoring Farragut Flag Football for youth ages 5-9. Games, which started in July and held at Mayor Bob Leonard Park Field 5, will conclude in early September. Sixty players completed in two divisions – Rookie League (ages 5-6) and Pro Bowlers League (7-9). The league, sanctioned by the National Football League allowing the wearing of NFL-style jerseys and use of NFL-type flags and footballs, is the only such league in East Tennessee.

• Gavin Hughes (freestyle), Eddie Ceausu (backstroke), Ryan Wiebe (breaststroke) and William Brown (butterfly) were a Sugarwood Swim Team 9-10 boys medley relay that finished high during the recent Greater Knoxville Area Interclub Swim Association “City Meet.”
