Be a ‘Gator hater’ this week at The Shrimp Dock

The Shrimp Dock in Farragut is getting Vols fans ready for Saturday’s game against Florida by “frying the gators,” co-owner Phil Dangel said.

“All week long will be Gator Week at The Dock,” he added, gearing up to the UT/Florida football game kicking off at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, at Neyland Stadium.

Store manager Allen Shields said gator meat “has a taste similar to chicken, but has more of the graininess of pork. It has the white meat texture of chicken.”

The meat, he said, is best fried.

“You just want to use it in a milk wash or egg wash and then use a seasoned cornmeal breading and deep fry it into nuggets,” Shields said.

“It’s perfect for tailgating,” he added.

He recommended serving it with remoulade sauce. For customers who buy gator, The Shrimp Dock will supply recipes for preparing the unusual meat.

The Shrimp Dock is serving gator meat ready for frying at $10.99 per pound, gator sausage for $6.99 per pound, plus gator gumbo at $9.99 a quart.

“Just take it home and reheat,” Dangel said.

The specialty of the week will be gator po’ boys, along with one side order for two, at $10.99.

“Be sure to make the Shrimp Dock your Gator headquarters,” Dangel said.

“Go Vols.”
