• Alex Newby, Lipscomb University freshman runner who is a former Farragut High School cross country and track honoree, earned Atlantic Sun Conference Runner of the Week award, as announced Wednesday, Sept. 15, after she set a personal record of 18:56.27 at the Vermont Invitational 5K, finishing eighth.

• Fourth Annual Volley For a Cure Tennis Exhibition and Dinner, a fundraiser to benefit Knoxville affiliate of Susan G. Komen For a Cure, is Friday, Oct. 1, at Fox Den Country Club courts and clubhouse. A tennis exhibition between former pros Chris Groer and Ben Rodgers starts the evening at 6 p.m. A silent auction follows at 6:30 in FDCC clubhouse. Dinner is 7:30. Tickets are $40 each. • Annual Bearden High School Baseball Golf Tournament — to be played in memory of the late Mark Keen, president of Bulldog Baseball Dugout Club last season and a prominent, highly respected booster — is set for Willow Creek Golf Course Friday, Oct. 22. • Farragut Alumni Association is hosting an FHS Homecoming gathering before the Ads' varsity game versus Murfreesboro Riverdale from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 24. Free homemade chili, hot dogs and soft drinks available.

• Tickets on sale for The Hearing and Speech Foundation's Fourth Annual Away Game Tailgate Fundraiser Saturday, Oct. 2, guest-hosted by former All-American Tennessee Volunteers All-SEC receiver Larry Seivers. The event takes place in Neyland Stadium's East Club Skybox while first-year UT Football head coach Derek Dooley and his Vols tackle LSU in Baton Rouge, La. Doors will open one hour before kickoff. Tickets include a lavish buffet of tailgate food and two complimentary beverages. Ticket sales are tax deductible; proceeds benefit The Hearing and Speech Foundation. Also a silent auction. • Free to Breathe 5K Run/1 Mile Walk unites people passionate about raising money to fight lung cancer. Event is Saturday, Oct. 16, in Village Green Subdivision, Jamestowne Boulevard, Farragut. • University of Georgia Alumni Club of Knoxville, estimated around 850 strong, announces future events including a community service project, family day at Ijams Nature Center, undergraduate networking event and admissions seminar for 8th-11th-graders. For each UGA Bulldogs football game this fall, the club has tapped Spice Rack Cantina off Kingston Pike as the group's official game-watching spot, gathering each Saturday 30 minutes prior to kickoff.
