Work to begin on Kingston Pike-Lovell Road intersection

Improvements to the intersection at Kingston Pike and Lovell Road could begin early next year, TDOT spokesman Duane Manning said.

“We have let that project right there for Kingston Pike and Lovell Road, and everything is in the works to start very soon,” Manning said.

The contract was awarded to Rogers Group Inc. for “roughly $443,000.”

The project is adding a second left turn lane from eastbound Kingston Pike onto Lovell Road.

Manning said the time frame for starting construction was a bit flexible at the moment because of restrictions on how much resurfacing could be done at a time.

“Usually, for a job like this, we’ll have to widen to one side to allow enough room for that center turn lane. So because of seasonal paving limitations, we don’t want to get in there and tear everything up and not be able to pave it back.

“So it might be next year before we see any major work take place, but it’s fairly straightforward, not a host of work to take place,” Manning said.

“It should be a short-term impact to the public,” he added.

The project completion deadline is April 30, 2011.
