Lady Irish down Farragut volleyball despite two competitive games

KNOXVILLE — Last Wednesday night, Sept. 27, on the road at Knoxville Catholic High School, Farragut’s volleyball team had leads in each set against the Lady Irish.

But they couldn’t hold either one. KCHS took the match 2-0 with set scores of 25-19 and 25-18.

“I don’t think they played bad,” Lady Admirals’ assistant coach Madison Wilkerson said. “We played hard, but it’s just we make mistakes at the wrong time and let teams catch up on us.

“We just gotta learn to be mentally tough and try to work through and keep that momentum the whole set,” the coach added. “When they get a lead they get comfortable.”

“Farragut is always a great opponent, so this is always a really great match,” KCHS assistant coach Michelle Dougherty said. “We’ve been working really hard to find our grit and we really started showing that tonight.”

“I feel like we weren’t really locked in,” Lady Admirals’ outside hitter Else Morrison said. “I think we’re tired here at the end of the season. We need to get out of that mindset.”

Morrison led her team with six kills. Morrison and Teagan Williams each had seven assists. No player had more than two aces or blocks.

Alex Mendillo led the Lady Irish in kills and digs with eight each. Mendillo and Alyssa Adams each had three aces.
