Webb repeats as 3-Minute HWWW champ

Mastering Westside regular season play for a second straight season, Webb School of Knoxville Varsity Football also accomplished a rare feat.

A repeat winner of farragutpress How the West Was Won Trophy presented by 3-Minute Magic Carwash, Webb's 2010 Spartans finished with a perfect regular season record for only the second time in school history (10-0 — were 9-0 in 1968).

“All the teams in the West Knoxville area have really strong programs,” said Webb head coach Dave Meske, enjoying his first-ever perfect regular season in 26 years as Spartans boss.

“It's an honor to get this award, and we're very excited for our players,” Meske added about the bronze Stetson hat trophy, awarded last season at Webb's end-of-season banquet by 3-Minute Magic Carwash owner Jim Rooney. That banquet also celebrated Webb's Division II-A state title.

This season, the Spartans beat out runner-up Christian Academy of Knoxville (9-1), followed by Bearden (7-3), winning points scored tiebreaker versus fourth-place Hardin Valley Academy (7-3). (See page 16)

Knoxville Catholic and Farragut tied in record (6-4) and points scored (247).
