Shop Farragut kicks off

Farragut’s fifth-annual Shop Farragut campaign will kick off this Saturday, Nov. 20, and all holiday shoppers are encouraged to spend their dollars in Farragut.

Shop Farragut will run for the six busiest holiday shopping weeks, through Dec. 31.

Shop Farragut encourages shoppers to target restaurants, stores and other businesses owned by their neighbors and friends in Farragut. The campaign also helps the Town, which is funded largely by sales tax.

Local stores and restaurants will offer discounts and coupons through the program.

“Shop Farragut helps the community in several different ways. It helps the local businesses, because it helps keep them in business. And it helps the citizens here who save gas and time, which saves money,” Sue Stuhl, Farragut parks and leisure services director, said.

“It also keeps the dollars in Town. And when the dollars stay in Town — we say it makes good ‘cents’ for our Town — then that money goes to all the wonderful things everyone loves: parks, greenways, programs, special events, roads, all those things,” she added.

Participating businesses will have a Shop Farragut poster on display, and also can have a road sign in front of their storefront.

They’re also listed at www.townoffarragut.org

Readers of farragutpress also will find Shop Farragut information — including coupons, advertisements and lists of holiday community events at churches, schools and in businesses — in four special sections printed in November and December.

“Shop Farragut is a great program that we’ve supported for the five years since it began,” Elaine Grove, farragutpress associate publisher, said.

“And this year, we’re excited to announce we’ll be publishing four special sections during Shop Farragut that will highlight Farragut businesses, as well as local community events in a ‘What’s Happening’ lead story.

“The lead editorial story will talk about all the different holiday events going on in the community during that week: from open houses at businesses, to the Town’s Celebrate the Season, to events at churches or events with community or civic groups,” she added.

The Shop Farragut special sections will print Nov. 25 and Dec. 2, 9 and 16.

“We want to support Farragut businesses because we are a Farragut business too,” Grove said.

Stuhl said 107 businesses had signed up to participate in Shop Farragut this year.

Businesses are invited to continue to register throughout the campaign, but the sooner a business registers, the better the guarantee that business will be listed in print advertising because of deadlines.

Registering is free; call 865-966-7057.

Shop Farragut is the new name for the former “Buy in Farragut” campaign.

Weekly specials and coupons offered by participating businesses also will be at www.townoffarragut.org, beginning Friday, Nov. 19.
