Cool generates excitement as Farragut takes two from Hardin Valley

Farragut boys basketball head coach Chris Cool wanted to generate some excitement for his Thursday night, Dec. 3 match-up against new rival Hardin Valley Academy at FHS.

“I went to every classroom yesterday and said I am lowering the admission price to $2. If everyone comes and they are loud, we'll do it again,” Cool said. “I want them in the stands making noise.”

His plan worked. The Farragut gym was loud and the students were rowdy. They helped the boys program extend its unbeaten streak over the young Hardin Valley program, 72-55.

“Coach told us we had to stop their runs, answer their quick points and take it right to them,” said senior point Craig Leuthold, who ended with six points and a bunch of hustle stats.

“Hardin Valley is a really good team,” said FHS junior guard Blake Williams, who led the scoring with 23 points.

Meanwhile, The FHS Lady Ads left the gym with its eighth win against no losses, 55-27. (More on FHS girls later in story)

“I want to brag on my post players tonight, Preston Spalding, Reed Haugh and Will Park,” Cool said. “I told these guys I needed 20 points and 15 rebounds tonight. They came up big for us.”

The trio combined for 26 points and surpassed Cool's goal of 15 rebounds.

Senior Taylor Diegel added 13 points for the Ads (5-2) and junior Connor Martens four.

LADY ADS 55 HVA 27

“The whole team plays such good defense,” Lady Ads head coach Wes Edmonds said. “We gave them a 4-point third quarter. Single digit quarters have been relatively common this year.”

Seniors Haley Newby and Katie Cargo led all scorers with 18 points apiece and sophomore Katie Overton added 12.

“When we step up and score like that we are pretty tough to beat,” said Edmonds.
