Lady Hawks 3-0 in district; HVA boys fall


Jennifer Galloway’s Hardin Valley Academy Lady Hawks continue to sound a loud beat in District 3-AAA, starting the season 3-0.

Led by Kayla Carey’s 14 points, the HVA girls (6-3 overall) slipped past the Halls Lady Red Devils 46-41 Tuesday evening, Dec. 7, at Hardin Valley.

The second and fourth quarters proved decisive, as the Lady Hawks out-scored Halls 13-8 in the second frame to grab a 21-20 halftime lead.

Tied 29-29 going into the final eight minutes of play, HVA reeled off a 17-12 fourth quarter edge.

All nine of Lauren Trent’s points came from three-point baskets. Taylor Harris added eight points, with Jennifer Schilling scoring five, Whitney Moore four, plus three each for Tiffany Cantrell and Emily Cornelius.


Meanwhile, Hardin Valley’s boys fell to 6-3 overall, 1-2 in district, following a 61-46 loss to Halls despite a team-high 18 points from senior guard V.J. Brown.

Other HVA scorers were Tevin Gunn seven, Zak Carter six, five each for Michael McKinney and Clemons, and two from Tyler Baker.
