LENOIR CITY — Defensive adjustments in the third quarter and effective scoring from its post players allowed Farragut to rise above the .500 mark and put together a small win streak.

With four Admirals reaching double figures in scoring, led by junior wing Blake Williams’ 17, the Admirals (7-6) overcame a halftime deficit with a big third quarter, beating Walker Valley (1-7) 60-53 in opening round Lenoir City Christmas Classic action Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 28, at LCHS.

Taylor Diegel, senior wing, scored 14 for FHS, while the post tandem of senior Will Park (12 points) and sophomore Preston Spalding (10) were huge. “If we can get post players to hit shots like we did tonight, and open it up for our guards, that just makes a world of difference,” FHS head coach Chris Cool said. “I can see a development from Preston and Will and Reed [Haugh].”

Williams said the Ads clamped down defensively in the third quarter, turning a 27-26 halftime deficit into a 44-34 lead after three quarters that grew to as many as 15 in the fourth. “We had a guy pressuring them on the ball,” he said, as WVHS’s top scorers in the first half, Jahmal Johnson (11 points) and Jackson Brownfield (10), combined for only two after halftime. “And they couldn’t guard us in the open court.”
