• Upcoming varsity high school basketball games for Westside teams, Thursday, Feb. 3, through Wednesday, Feb. 9 (all games start with girls game at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted): Farragut teams home versus Bearden, Friday, Feb. 4; at Clinton, Monday, Feb. 7. Hardin Valley Academy teams at Clinton Friday; at Lenoir City Monday; home versus Central (Senior Night) Tuesday. Bearden teams at Farragut Friday; home versus Powell Tuesday.

• One of the nation's top college baseball programs will be represented as featured speaker during the annual Farragut Admirals Baseball Diamond Dinner at Concord United Methodist Church Monday evening, Feb. 28. Dave Serrano, head baseball coach at Cal State Fullerton and former assistant coach with the Tennessee Volunteers, will speak to conclude the festivities. Doors will open at 6 p.m. for a meet and greet with FHS players and coaches, with meals served at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children, and can be purchased by calling 865-671-2872 or

• Second annual Forget Me Not 5K walk/run to fight Alzheimer's disease will be held beginning at 8 a.m., April 9, at Lenoir City High School. Race will run through Rock Springs Trail Greenway. Awards ceremony and celebration will be held after the race including door prizes and a Memory Wall for runners are racing in honor or memory of loved ones. Pre registration and other info at

• CYF Football, based at Christian Academy of Knoxville, is holding open registration for 7-, 8-, 9- and 10-year-old tackle football teams. Rosters will be capped when full. Teams will play in AFC and NFC divisions. For more information, contact Jeff Taylor at 865-765-2119.

• The late Jimmy H. Elliott, former Farragut High School All-American and All-state basketball player (Class of 1980) who lost a battle with cancer last summer, will be honored during a ceremony when FHS hosts archrival Bearden for basketball games Friday night, Feb. 4. Jimmy's white home jersey, No. 41, has been framed and will be presented to family members by FHS officials during a brief dedication ceremony before the boys varsity game (approximately 7:45 p.m.). A plaque also will be presented that will hang on FHS's Wall of Fame located in the concourse of Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium. A reception, with refreshments, begins at 7 p.m. in the gym's balcony area. Event also sponsored by Kidz Team, a local charity that offers time-sensitive assistance to the families of newly diagnosed child cancer patients.

• Farragut High School’s varsity basketball games at Bearden have been moved to Friday, Feb. 11. Varsity girls begin at 6:30 p.m.

• A $500,000 purse awaits top finishers at PGA Nationwide Tour’s annual stop at Fox Den Country Club, once again to be played in late August. Formerly known as Knoxville Open and annually played at Fox Den in early to mid-June before last year, this season’s Nationwide Tour event runs Thursday-Sunday, Aug. 25-28.
