Win at Karns gives Lady Hawks first-ever tourney bye

The Hardin Valley girls not only ruined Senior Night for the Karns Lady Beavers, but also earned a No. 3 seed for this week's District 3-AAA tournament — and the program's first-ever tourney bye.

Jumping out to an early lead, the Lady Hawks (17-10, 12-4 District 3-AAA) never relinquished and the result was a regular season-ending victory, 68-50, Friday night, Feb. 11, at KHS.

“It wasn't the prettiest, but we got it done tonight. We got a little sloppy and we need to play focused as we start tournament play," said HVA senior post Jennifer Schilling, who lead the Lady Hawks with 16 points.

“Tonight I thought we did well moving the ball up and down the court,” Lady Hawks senior guard and hustle points leader Emily Cornelius said. “We're working as a team and looking pretty good going into the tournament.”

Others scoring for the Lady Hawks were Lauren Trent with 14, Tiffany Cantrell and Kayla Carey nine each, Taylor Harris seven, Whitney Moore five, Hannah Cornelius four and Caitlin Mann and Emily Cornelius two each.

After the game HVA head coach Jennifer Galloway discussed her team’s district tournament readiness.

“We have been doing a better job handling pressure and we have balanced scoring,” she said. “There are still a few things defensively that we are working on, but I feel good going into the tournament.”
