• DEARING, Karin,
age 64, of Knoxville, formerly of Kearney, Mo., passed away Friday evening, Feb. 11, 2011. Karin was an animal lover and transported rescue animals. She was a medical assistant for Summit Medical Group in Farragut. Karin is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, Sydney C. Dearing Jr; daughters, Julie and Jill Riley; stepdaughter, Donna Salch; stepson, David Dearing; two granddaughters; sisters, Margaret Green and husband, James, and Alee Johnson; and beloved pets. • DAVIS, Sophia “Momma Fay” Fay,
age 76, of Knoxville passed away Wednesday evening, Feb. 9, 2011. Fay was retired from IRA Watson Distribution Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Davis; children, Carl Ashley and Kenneth Ashley; stepchildren, Clifford Davis, Brenda Gray and J R Davis; sisters, Henrietta, Ora Lee and Clara May. Fay is survived by her daughters, Kelley Coggins, Betty Wright and Lisa Lane; sons, Russell Ashley, Roger Lane and William Lane; stepchildren, Winford Davis and Judy Barnard; granddaughter whom she reared, Kassi Gunter; 26 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; brother, Homer Norman; sister, Amy Ousley; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Carol Martin and Dawn Hicks. • BEATY, Robert “Bob” Edsel,
age 62, of Michigan passed away Sunday afternoon, Feb. 13, 2011 in Knoxville. Bob was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving with the U.S. Army 23rd Infantry Division “Americal.” He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Sandi Beaty; daughter, Lori Lea Beaty; parents, Edsel and Sarah Beaty; sister and brother-in-law, Shali and Mark Hurst; brother, Brian Beaty; a grandson; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service was Wednesday, Feb. 16 at Talbott Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Spears officiating. Interment followed at Peolia Cemetery with full military honors. • BATES, James “Jim” B.,
age 71, a Knoxville native and longtime resident of Cleveland, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, Feb. 9, 2011. Jim served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from Carter High School. While working his way up the ladder at Alcoa Aluminum, he diligently pursued his education and graduated from The University of Tennessee Knoxville with a degree in business. Shortly after graduating, he was recruited by Bowater Southern where he spent the majority of his professional career. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather whom loved spending time with his grandchildren — perhaps even more than he liked spending time on the golf course. His enthusiasm for life, his sense of humor, and commitment to his family and friends will long be remembered by the people whose lives he touched. Spending time contemplating the words of the Lord and singing in church choirs was something he also thoroughly enjoyed … his last church membership was at First Baptist Church Concord. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Sybil Bates; father and mother-in-law, Hubert and Elpha Stair; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Witt and Gary Stair; nephew, Greg Stair. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Ginger Bates; daughter, Lorinda; her fiancé, David Riley, his son, Jim II; his youngest daughter, Susan and husband, Chuck Evans; seven grandchildren; his sisters, Charlotte and husband, Steve Swaggerty, Judy and husband, David Hayes, Barbara Witt; brother, Bob Bates and wife June; and brother-in-law, Ronnie Stair and fiancée, Jo Ann; as well as many nieces and nephews. • RICKELS, Ann Coleman,
age 59, of Knoxville, formerly of Hickory, N.C., passed away Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, following a brief illness. Ann was a member of Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Ann is survived by her husband of 28 years, Gary Rickels; son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Lauren Rickels; son, Blake Rickels; two grandchildren; parents, Dr. Les and Betty Coleman; sister, Leslie Bishop; brothers, Bobby and Doug Coleman; many nieces and nephews.
