• A pair of former Farragut Admirals All-state offensive linemen have been named to 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Football Team. Michael Hoag, a junior guard at Wake Forest (Winston-Salem, N.C.), and Will Jackson, a freshman guard at Georgia Tech (Atlanta, Ga.) were two of 52 honorees among the 12 league teams. Jackson, a 2010 FHS graduate, also earned first-team All-ACC Freshmen honors.

• Region 2-AAA Boys Basketball Tournament championship game opening tip-off is 7 p.m., Thursday, March 3. Bearden would play in title game if it defeated Central Tuesday, March 1, in region semifinal action. If the Bulldogs won, championship game would be played either at BHS or at Oak Ridge High School (if Wildcats defeated West). Boys substate game (No. 1 Region 2-AAA hosting No. 2 from Region 1-AAA, and No. 1 from 1-AAA hosting No. 2 from 2-AAA) is 7 p.m., Monday night, March 7.

• Girls Class AAA substate basketball action will include Farragut as Region 2-AAA champ or No. 2. Region 2-AAA champ hosts No. 2 from Region 1-AAA, and No. 1 from 1-AAA hosts No. 2 from 2-AAA. Opening tip-off is 7 p.m., Saturday night, March 7.

• 19th annual Love Your Libraries Fun Run is Saturday, March 5, at Circle Park on The University of Tennessee campus. Registration from 6:45 to 7:45 a.m., March 5; 5K race and the one-mile fun walk begin at 8 a.m. Races benefit UT libraries. An awards ceremony will follow the race. • Tennessee Izaak Walton League, with assistance from Girl Scout Troop 20130, is hosting a Outdoor Explorers guided walk on TVA's Hickory Bend land, located near Watt Road, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 3. Meet group at Knox County's Hickory Creek Park, 2120 Everett Road, about two miles north of I-40 and Watt Road. Rain will cancel the event. • Marjorie Butler, junior star guard at Webb School of Knoxville and a University of Georgia commitment, is one of three finalists for Miss Basketball Division II-Class A. The winner will be announced and recognized Saturday, March 5, at Allen Arena on the campus of Lipscomb University, Nashville, between a break in TSSAA state tournament action. A statewide committee of sportswriters selected winners based on performance during the 2010-2011 regular season. Academics and character also were taken into consideration. High school head basketball coaches and media members nominated the finalists.

• Natalie L. Sisk, former girls varsity basketball head coach at Farragut High School (1988-97) and FHS girls soccer head coach (1986-1990), was recognized for her inclusion onto the school's Wall of Fame, located in concourse of Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium. Sisk was honored at FHS during a ceremony at halftime of the boys varsity game versus archrival Bearden Friday night, Feb. 4. While her soccer teams compiled an 82-7 overall record, Sisk’s 1986 Lady Ads were Class AAA state runner-up while all of five of her teams reached the state tourney.

• Town of Farragut now is accepting registrations for coed and men's recreational softball teams to participate in spring leagues, which begin the week of April 4 at Mayor Bob Leonard Park, 301 Watt Road. All leagues are ASA sanctioned, for participants 18 and older. Mandatory captain's meeting to be held beginning at 6 p.m., Thursday, March 24, in Farragut Town Hall, 11408 Municipal Center Drive across from Farragut Branch Post Office. Deadline to register and pay is 5 p.m., Thursday, March 17. Registration forms available at Farragut Town Hall, on the Town's website at townoffarragut.org, or by contacting Athletic and Park Coordinator Jay Smelser at jay.smelser@townoffarragut.org or 865-966-7057.

• Town of Farragut now is accepting registrations for coed spring sand volleyball leagues to include a competitive, intermediate and two recreational leagues, with teams consisting of four to six players. All matches at Mayor Bob Leonard Park, 301 Watt Road. Each team must play with at least two women on the court at all times. Spring deadline to register and pay is 5 p.m., Thursday, March 17. • Second annual Forget Me Not 5K walk/run to fight Alzheimer's disease will be held beginning at 8 a.m., April 9, at Lenoir City High School. Race will run through Rock Springs Trail Greenway. Awards ceremony and celebration will be held after the race including door prizes and a Memory Wall for runners are racing in honor or memory of loved ones. • Farragut High School and Kidz Team honored the late Jimmy Elliott, Admirals All-state basketball player (Class of 1980) with a framed jersey presentation, and inclusion into the school's Wall of Fame in Lynn E. Sexton Gymnasium concourse, during a ceremony at FHS between girls and boys varsity basketball games versus archrival Bearden Friday night, Feb. 4. Jimmy lost his battle with cancer in 2010.
