Defending champ Spartans start 3-1

An opening-game pitching gem followed by a Saturday runs explosion helped Webb School of Knoxville Baseball, defending Division II-A state champs, win three of four games at Nike Classic in Clinton last week.

K.J. Parent's six innings of shutout pitching led the Spartans past Grace Christian Academy 6-1 Thursday, March 17.

“He had a very good outing to start out the year,” said Webb head coach Clark Wormsley, as Parent allowed just one walk while striking out five. Parker Wormsley relieved in the seventh.

Offensively, “Jim Dolinak had a big day,” coach Wormsley said of Dolinak's home run and double producing three RBI. Kyle King added two hits and two RBI while Robbie Britt connected for two hits, including a double, and one RBI.

Bouncing back from a 7-1 loss to South-Doyle Friday, the Spartans crushed Clinton 14-3 March 19 behind the offensive trio of Michael Lindstrom (two-run homer, two hits overall, three RBI), Wormsley (3-of-4, including a double) and King (2-of-2).

Winning pitcher Frank Potts gave up just one hit in a complete game, five-inning effort.

Whipping Christian Academy of Knoxville 12-4 Saturday, King had four hits and two RBI. Brock Beeler delivered two hits, including a double, and two RBI.

Wormsley, also winning pitcher, added two hits and two RBI.

On the mound, Wormsley had a no-hitter going through four innings before allowing one earned run and three hits in five innings.
