Gigi’s Cupcakes now open in Turkey Creek

Swanson and Amy Tate are hoping to answer the Knoxville area’s quest for cupcakes as the baked goods gain in popularity.

“Cupcakes seem to be the thing this year,” Amy said of her business, Gigi’s Cupcakes off Parkside Drive.

The bakery has tables and stools for patrons to enjoy themselves.

“It’s a great place for girlfriends to come in, and for kids, of course,” Amy said.

Gigi’s is well-known for its frosting, which is piled high on each cupcake.

Amy said Gigi’s is set apart by its cupcake presentation.

“They’re just beautiful cupcakes with a lot of frosting. And people comment about that probably the most, the frosting.

“And all the frosting is freshly made ... with a lot of butter,” Amy laughed.

Gigi’s offers a different cupcake menu every day of the week, with flavors running from banana cream pie to German sweet chocolate to Southern Comfort.

“We bake 10 to 12 different varieties fresh each morning, and we bake them here. Our bakers get here about 5 a.m. and start. And we don’t resell them the next day ... we donate them to charities.

“We also usually have a special or two,” Amy said.

Gigi’s also sells beverages: “coffee and hot cocoa and sodas and milk, of course. We have to have milk.”

The Tates live and work in Farragut.

“It’s just a great location. It’s the place to be in Knoxville,” Amy said.

“We don’t get out of Farragut much. Personally, as a family, we stay in Farragut; we eat here,” she added.

Customers can order cupcakes in the store, online or by phone or fax. Gigi’s also caters weddings, bridal showers and other special events.

Gigi’s, 11665 Parkside Drive, is based out of Nashville with more than 30 locations around the nation. The Tates also are franchisee owners of SportClips.

The hours for the Turkey Creek store are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday. The bakery is closed Sundays.
