Lady Govs gutted
Farragut rips powerful WBHS with Murr pitching, 13 hits

In describing her pitching success that was so critical to Farragut's stunning 12-2, six-inning thumping of District 4-AAA favorite William Blount Tuesday evening, Kaci Murr simply said, “I hit my spots.”

The junior not only held the powerful Lady Govs (7-3, 1-1) to a pair of unearned runs with no walks, but got to end the show with a walk-off two-RBI double in the bottom of the sixth.

The margin of victory “really surprised me, because our games are usually kinda close,” said Murr, whose Lady Ads improved to 4-4 overall, a perfect 4-0 in district, with the March 29 win at FHS's Bellamy Field.

Murr, allowing eight hits in six innings, got a pair of double plays in the first two WBHS at-bats, then worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the third.

“Kaci made some big pitches in some big spots,” FHS head coach David Moore said.

Madison Gray's two-out, three-RBI triple in the second inning made it 4-0.

“We did this last year; if you just jump on them then they're going to get flustered,” said Gray, senior centerfielder who had two hits. “Jumping on them usually gives us a good upper hand.”

Junior second baseman Baylee Williams went 4-of-4, including her second home run in as many games — a deep line drive to left field — plus a triple and three RBI.

Megan Harris, senior All-state third baseman, added a pair of doubles plus a single, finishing with four RBI.

Murr collected two hits, while Brittany Gray laid down a key bunt single in the FHS second inning.

Chelsea Sutphin added a perfectly placed bunt single in the fourth.

Claire Berman had a key sacrifice bunt in the second inning.
