Hot Hawks warm the nets, blank CHS

Hardin Valley Academy’s Boys Soccer team did exactly what was expected on Thursday, March 24.

The Hawks, the defending District 3-AAA champs, wasted little time putting the Central Bobcats away in a 5-0 win in the league opener for both schools before a boisterous crowd at HVA, Thursday, March 24.

The teams battled on a frigid late March evening but Hardin Valley’s offensive attack was anything but cold — especially early.

It took the Hawks just over four minutes to bury a shot in the back of the net. Chris Gallaher scored the game’s first goal off a pass from Nick Skoda.

“I just got a great ball from Skoda,” Gallaher said. “We’re doing great early and this was a great win for us. This was a total team effort for us. Everyone is contributing and that’s how we’re going to win games.”

Skoda was credited with an assist on the match’s first marker but he was far from finished making an impact in the Hawks’ lopsided victory.

He would finish the game with a hat trick.

Skoda extended Hardin Valley’s advantage to 2-0 with a goal in the 18th minute. Gallaher was credited with the assist.

Skoda tallied again three minutes later to close out the first half scoring. “It was a little chilly out there but you really get warmed up quick when you’re out there running around,” Skoda said.

“We’re playing a new formation and we’re still trying to find a chemistry up top,” added Skoda, who completed his hat trick in the waning moments of the match.

Dalton Guzman gave HVA a 3-0 lead in the first minute of the second half before Skoda tallied again in the 79th minute.

Hawks goalie Joey Hinshaw recorded a shutout and was rarely tested. He made just saves.
