• DESMIDT, Mary Elizabeth,
age 37, of Knoxville, formerly of Roanoke, Va., passed away Thursday evening, Feb. 24, 2011. Our Mary slipped away after 37 years of laughing, loving and enjoying life. She was a graduate of The University of Tennessee and a Virginia Tech Hokie at heart. She loved teaching math, baking, gardening, her cats Pan and Po and was passionate about photography. She leaves her cherished soul-mate, friend and husband of 15 years, Hans DeSmidt; mother, Cathy Keith; father, Richard Keith; sister, Amy Keith; brother, John Keith; two nephews; special aunt, Muffin Clinevell; grandmother, Betty Keith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Tom and Carla DeSmidt; special friends; her “Tuesday Morning Group” in Knoxville and all her family and friends who have loved and prayed for her. • STOTT, Michael,
born Aug. 15, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pa., died Feb. 22, 2011, at Ben Atchley State Veterans Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He is survived by his wife, Joanna Carnesi Stott; daughter, Tammy Stott Domgaard; two grandchildren; and brother, Paul Stott. Mike was a retired U.S. Navy chief warrant officer, who worked as a salvage diving officer. He continued his diving career at Santa Fe International in Houma, La., and later joined the family business. Most recently he lived in Tellico Village in Loudon where he enjoyed working as a volunteer with the National Park Service in The Great Smoky Mountains National Park. • MARTINEZ Jr., Gilbert “Gil,”
age 56, of Knoxville passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 24, 2011. Gilbert was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Carmen Martinez. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Martinez; son, Michael Velazquez; daughters, Nicole Velazquez and Michelle Velazaquez; nine grandchildren; sisters, Elsa Borowiec (David), Hildy Martinez, Lucy Smith (Richard), Ines Pereira (Tino), Alida Medina (Rick); many nieces, nephews and best friend, Richard. • CHILDRESS, Lillian Rhea,
of Farragut. Our daughter, Lillian Rhea Childress, died suddenly on the afternoon of Feb. 23, 2011, having just celebrated her 9th birthday. Lilli has been loved by and will be missed by her Mama and Papa (Linda and Scott); brothers, William and Max; sister, Eliza, along with many family members, friends, caregivers and teachers.
