Double trouble
Lady Ads Softball falls to MHS in resumed game, regular tilt

Farragut High School's softball team had plenty of chances to win a crucial District 4-AAA home game over Maryville Tuesday evening, April 19.

They actually had two chances.

The Lady Ads opened the day by losing a 3-2 decision to the Lady Rebels in the continuation of a suspended contest at MHS, postponed due to rain after seven innings April 4. Farragut took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 10th inning of that game, only to see Maryville come back to win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.

In the regularly scheduled game, the Lady Admirals stranded two runners in each of their first four at-bats and the result was a 4-2 loss to the Lady Rebels.

“Point blank, that's the name of the game,” FHS head coach David Moore said. “This game is about getting timely hits. Maryville had their opportunities and they got the clutch hits. We had our opportunities and we didn't.”

The Lady Rebels plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning that featured an error, single, double and sacrifice fly.

Farragut was able to cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the frame. Madison Gray doubled and scored two outs later when Andi Murry reached on an error.

“We played hard today, but we really had a chance to come out in the second game,” said Murry, senior shortstop who went 1-for-3 with a stolen base in the regularly scheduled game. “We were pumped up for that second game, but we went into cruise control and let them score two runs in the first inning. Then, we had to play from behind all day.”

The Lady Admirals squandered a scoring chance in the bottom of the second after FHS pitcher Kaci Murr retired the Lady Rebels in order in the top of the inning.

The Lady Rebels capitalized on shaky Farragut defense in the top of the third — five errors in the game — to go up 3-1, using an error and two singles.

The Lady Ads (14-10-1 overall, 8-3 in district) pulled to within 3-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Madison Gray, who went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs, two singles and a stolen base, singled with one out. She later scored on a single by Megan Harris.

The Lady Rebels added an insurance run in the top of the sixth.
