Adam, Irish rip extremely young Webb

Caroline Adam and her Knoxville Catholic Lady Irish Softball team, having already passed last season’s entire win total, are taking the next step towards big-time success.

Blowouts.

But just remember, Webb School of Knoxville (3-9 record) starts four eighth-graders and one freshman.

Adam, sophomore pitcher and staff ace, fired a no-hitter as Catholic (8-10) romped Webb 14-0 in five innings Monday, April 18, at KCHS. Adam, who struck out seven while allowing two walks, said Lady Irish head coach Sarah Fekete Bailey “inspires us to do better, and she pushes us hard.

“We’ve never been pushed like this. ... She just tells me that I can do it, and no [coach] has ever done that before. It makes me want to be better.”

A six-run first inning and seven-run fourth inning was led by Carolyn Williamson’s pair of bunt singles and Kathleen Conaty’s two hits, including a two-RBI double.

Catherine Holland and Taylor Willis each added an RBI single.

Emily Cunningham punched out an infield hit. Clare Conaty rocketed an RBI double, as did Katie Beeler.

Emily Broussard had two RBI and Miranda Beeler one.

Spartans errors helped make it worse. “We’re just young, it’s like if we make one error, it’s like a snowball effect,” Webb senior pitching ace Shawnee Shuler said.

Lady Spartans head coach Dodie Montgomery said her young players “are getting better,” but added her team is “making costly errors.”
