Cinco de Mayo event planned

Meksiko Cantina owners Mario and Claudia Navarro are hosting the Town’s first Cinco de Mayo event in West End.

“The idea is just to have a big community event for Farragut,” Mario said.

The party will start at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 5, and continue into the night under a tent outside Meksiko Cantina, 120 West End Ave. The restaurant will serve margaritas, beer, tequila and have a taco bar set up outside, as well as seats available inside.

“That way, people can just come and have a drink and some light food, if they want. Or, if they’re bringing their whole family, they can have a seat inside,” Mario said.

“It’s really a family event,” he added.

There is no cost to attend; food and drinks will be normal price from the restaurant.

“We just want people to come and enjoy the night. Maybe people can come here to enjoy Cinco de Mayo because it’s close to home,” Mario said, rather than driving across town to big holiday parties.

“We invite everyone in the community,” he added.

The Cinco de Mayo celebration also will include live music from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m., as well as raffles with prizes donated by event sponsors.

Sponsors of the event are The Shrimp Dock, Farragut Wine & Spirits, Archer’s BBQ, Wild Wing Café, Knoxville Academy for Martial Arts, Schakolad, Chic Repeats, Country inn & Suites, The Rush, Captain Ernie’s, Border Tacos, Cookies by Design and Farragut Market.
