Murry, Lady Ads whip BHS

Andi Murry confesses that she's been mired in a season-long hitting slump.

But Farragut High School's senior shortstop wasn't slumping Wednesday, April 20. Murry went 2-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three runs batted in to lead the Lady Ads to an 8-4 District 4-AAA win over rival Bearden at BHS’s Kim Hazelwood Field.

“Last year, I hit at least six home runs and I haven't been hitting the ball well ... I need to hit more,” Murry said.

Murry’s two-run blast came in the top of the fourth inning and capped a five-run frame.

“That was her first of the season and she'd been fussing and wondering if she was ever going to hit another one,” FHS head coach David Moore said.

“We gave up five unearned runs in the fourth inning and those unearned runs killed us,” BHS head coach Leonard Sams said.

Farragut (15-10-1, 9-3 in district after the win) took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by Kaci Murr that scored Baylee Williams, who singled to lead off.

FHS added two in the third. Murry’s scoring triple that plated Madison Gray. Murry scored when Megan Harris doubled.

Gray added had a two-run single in Farragut’s five-run fourth inning. Brittany Gray had a two-run double.

The Lady Bulldogs (9-9, 4-6) did hit the ball hard but couldn't manage a hit until the fourth.

Murr, Farragut's junior ace, set down nine of the first 10 Bulldogs.

Bearden did plate four runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a pair after a lengthy rain delay. Kiarra Freeman reached on an error. Emma Kugler and Sara Burklin then had back-to-back singles. Freeman came home on an error. After the delay, Bearden pulled to within 8-4 on a two-run single by Issy Crowley.

Murr surrendered six hits and had two strikeouts. “I was just trying to pitch the ball low so it would stay on the ground,” she said. “I wanted to hit my spots and let my defense take care of things. If I didn't have my defense, there wouldn't be days like these.”
