letter to the editor

Proud to be from Farragut

I am writing to congratulate the citizens of Farragut. Many of us cowered in our safest places during the April 27 fierce storm, and we suffered damage to our homes and properties. However, everyone I spoke to felt blessed we were safe and empathy for those in Tennessee and the Southeast who lost loved ones, their homes and entire communities.

My friend and I drove around the area Thursday morning. Everywhere we traveled, the people of Farragut were already out cleaning up. Older and younger citizens, all out with brooms, rakes, shovels and chainsaws. The American spirit of camaraderie was evident.

Sometimes we feel our country is in decline, that our citizens are lazy or worse. This trial gave me the opportunity to see the “can do” independence of my Farragut neighbors, of their kindness and pride in the community. I am honored to be a part of the town of Farrragut.
