Trio shine as Lady Ads head into 4-AAA tourney at No. 3

Chelsea Sutphin had a weekend to remember in helping lead Farragut Softball to a runner-up tourney finish.

“Chelsea played solid defense … and probably had her best hitting weekend of the season,” FHS head coach David Moore said of Sutphin, FHS senior left fielder who was one of three Lady Ads selected All-tournament during the annual Region II Challenge Friday-Saturday, April 29-30.

Sutphin joined senior centerfielder Madison Gray and junior shortstop Baylee Williams as Farragut All-tourney selections, leading the Lady Ads to a 4-0 mark in pool play at FHS's Bellamy Field against Fulton, Sweetwater, Tazewell (Va.) and Virginia High. Farragut lost the title game to Karns at KHS 5-2 Saturday night.

“All three of them hit well throughout,” said Moore, whose Farragut girls stood at 21-11-1 overall and tied for second in District 4-AAA at 11-3. “Baylee did a good job at shortstop. Madison had two or three really, really clutch hits in RBI spots. She had some huge RBIs over the weekend that I thought were key.

“Kaci [Murr, staff ace] pitched solid,” Moore added. “Brittany [Gray] picked up a win against Sweetwater.”

The Lady Ads, No. 3 seed in the 4-AAA tourney, play at William Blount today, Thursday, May 5, (time unknown) against Wednesday's Bearden-Lenoir City winner.

A loss Thursday ends Farragut's or Bearden's season. But a win means entering double elimination play as the one of the remaining four district teams beginning Monday, May 9, at WBHS.

Championship round games are Wednesday, May 11, and, if necessary, Thursday, May 12.
