Webb claims LC crown

By edging past Clinton before tearing apart the tourney host with a huge first inning explosion, Webb Baseball captured Lenoir City Spring Classic title Saturday, April 30.

Some opening-round two-out drama helped make the championship possible.

Helping the Spartans (23-4) sneak past Clinton 4-3 in the semifinals, winning pitcher K.J. Parent went six innings and earned four strikeouts. Clay Tucker picked up a save in one inning of relief.

Offensively, Parker Wormsley led Webb with two hits while scoring two runs. Brennan Liu added a double and one RBI.

In the title game against host Lenoir City, the Spartans wasted no time: 14 first-inning runs en route to a 15-1 rout.

Liu’s two hits included a home run and four RBI. Corey Clayton smacked a home run and double, for two RBI. He scored three runs.

Winning pitcher Tucker worked four innings.

Webb opened Classic play by edging Kingston 9-8 after trailing 8-7 going to the bottom of the seventh inning.

Liu’s two-out, two-RBI walk-off single was the game-winning hit. Wormsley added two hits. Spartans reliever Garrett Headden picked up the win (2-0) while pitching four innings.

Wormsley pitched a complete game (nine strikeouts, one walk) in Webb’s 7-3 win against Oak Ridge Friday.

Liu added a pair of doubles, while Parent homered and had two hits overall. Kyle King stroked two hits, producing two RBI.
