Baseball Hawks enjoy ‘biggest win in program history’

Elliot Whitt now has perhaps the biggest hit in the brief history of Hardin Valley Academy's baseball program.

Whitt, the Hawks junior right fielder, got a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning to culminate Hardin Valley's 5-4 victory over the top-seeded Powell Panthers Saturday, May 7, in the second round of the District 3-AAA Tournament at Powell's Danny T. Maples Field.

Whitt, who was facing Drake Owenby, Powell's senior left-handed ace, got the big hit on a pitch he'd seen twice before in Saturday's tilt.

“He'd got me out on that same curveball twice today, and this time I reminded myself that I'd seen it and I had to remind myself to swing low,” said Witt, who struck out twice and reached on an error in his first three plate appearances Saturday. “He [Owenby] has a great curve, but he's predictable and I've seen him four or five times in my career.”
