Hawks ride Skoda, ‘D’ to state crown


MURFREESBORO — Defense and extra determination from its star goal scorer, the two most important elements helping Hardin Valley Academy athletics end a school year of championships with a state crown and unbeaten season.

Nick Skoda successfully played through a self-described “charley horse” leg injury, scoring both second-half HVA goals in a 2-0 Hawks victory against Science Hill in the Class AAA title game Friday night, May 27.

HVA head coach Michael McLean said he told the senior, “’You’re going to have to put this team on your back, we’re going to go as far as you take us.’ And he took us all the way through state. He’s just been a great player.
