Butler, Thompson, Yarnell swift at state


A handful of Westside girls track and field talents captured gold during TSSAA state tournament meets in Murfreesboro Thursday, May 26.

Among Division II teams, Webb School of Knoxville finished seventh (45 points) led by junior Marjorie Butler's championship pentathlon performance (3619) earlier in the week, plus her first-place finishes in 100-meter hurdles (:14.64) and 300 hurdles (:44.29) Thursday.

Behind senior Joanna Thompson's Class AAA state championship runs in the 3200 (10:49.42) and 1600 (5:01.16). Knoxville Catholicís girls captured 11th (21).

In Class AAA, Hardin Valley Academy's girls took ninth (26.50) led by junior Emily Yarnell's state title sprint in the 100-meter dash (:12.08).
