• Hardin Valley Middle School Baseball tryouts for rising sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders zoned for Hardin Valley Academy will begin at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at Hardin Valley Academy's baseball field. • Cullen Smith, a youth baseball player and seventh-grader at St. John Neumann Middle School in Farragut, has been invited to play with elite travel team, East Cobb Braves, for the third straight year. Rising eighth graders are allowed to play for a month when playing for an out-of-state team. Cullen is son of Julie Hanks and Dewayne Smith.

• Christian Academy of Knoxville and Webb School of Knoxville tennis teams had runner-up individual state finishes during Spring Fling in Murfreesboro last week. The Lady Warriors doubles team of Kia Batiste/Morgan Arrants finished No. 2 in Class A-AA, as did Webb's doubles team of Brian Carmen/Lorenza Rollhauser in Division II-A.


• During Boys Class AAA Track and Field State Meet Friday, May 27, in Murfreesboro, Bearden's 4 X 800 relay team finished third, helping the Bulldogs finish 13th. Top BHS individual efforts were fourth-place finishes from junior Nelson Pinkstaff (pole vault) and senior Stephon Stephens (400-meter dash). Webb School of Knoxville’s 4 X 400 relay team taking third in Division II.

• TSSAA Girls Track and Field State Meet finishes Thursday, May 26, in Murfreesboro included Bearden junior Rebecca Stover's second-place Class AAA effort in the 1600 run (5:04.98) and third-place finish in 800. Hardin Valley Academy's Lady Hawks finished ninth as a team in Class AAA, helped by its 4 x 200 relay team taking third. Christian Academy of Knoxville's 4 X 400 girls relay team captured third among Class A-AA competition.

• A 2-0 semifinal loss to Evangelical Christian School ended Webb School of Knoxville’s bid for a Division II-A Boys Soccer state tourney title last week in Murfreesboro. The Spartans finish (11-6-4).
