Red, White & Blues slated for July 3

It’s Farragut Business Alliance’s second annual Red, White & Blues.

The event, which celebrates Independence Day, will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, July 3, at 11863 Kingston Pike, adjacent to farragutpress, and will include food, drinks, games for the kids and live music.

RMS Band will provide the tunes, FBA founder David Purvis said.

“They play dance kind of music, stuff from the 60s and 70s. It’s really fun,” he added.

The Knoxville-based band is made up of rhythm section Zane and David Harkleroad, Rik Asher on guitar and lead singer Jesse Burdette.

Tickets to enter Red, White & Blues are $5 for adults and $2 for children under 12 at the door. There won’t be any pre-sold tickets. Event planners will be able to process ticket orders by cash, debit or credit cards, but won’t be able to accept American Express.

Food and drinks also will be available to event attendees.

“We’ll have Archer’s Barbecue there with barbecue. The Shrimp Dock will be doing a shrimp boil, Oskie’s will be making burgers and Firehouse Subs will be serving subs,” Purvis said.

Each food vendor will sell a meal for $6 per person, non-alcoholic drink included. Beer and wine will be available for those who want them. TDS Telecom will serve free ice cream sandwiches.

Food and liquor vendors will accept payments of cash only.

“We’ll also have a kid’s area with a carousel and inflatables, with slides and things,” Purvis said.

New to the event this year will be a watermelon eating contest, sponsored by Ingles Market, held during the band’s intermission, Purvis said.

“That was [FBA member] Ginny McLain-Tate’s idea. We just really thought it would be fun for kids and the whole family,” Purvis said.

“We’re very grateful to Doug and Brenda Horne for letting us once again use their property,” Purvis said.

Volunteers also are being recruited to help out in many ways. Those interested in being a volunteer this year may do so by calling Carla Lyle at 865-216-6737.
