• All-Around Region 8 Champion in a seven-state southeast realm, Nicholas Stigall of Farragut captured his 21st consecutive all-around win, including three state championships and two regional championships, April 10 in Jackson, Miss. A member of Tataru’s Gymnastics Level 7 men’s team, Nicholas was champ in Tennessee’s region including Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida. Nicholas took first place in pommel horse (earning a score of 15.9) and parallel bars.  

• TACA Volleyball All-star games were played earlier this month at Centennial HIgh School in Nashville. Two West Knoxville players played. Kassie Detchemendy, outside hitter from Farragut High School, helped lead the East AAA team to a 3-games-to-2 win. Courtney Madden, outside hitter from Webb School of Knoxville, played for the East A-AA team that won 3-games-to-1.

• Third Annual Firecracker Fishing tournament is being held over Independence Day weekend on Fort Loudoun Lake at Tellico Canal Ramp. Tournament starts at 7 p.m., Friday, July 2. • 27th Annual Pilot Fireball Moonlite Classic 5K Run/Walk will be held starting at 9 p.m., Sunday, July 3, at The University of Tennessee School of Veterinarian Medicine at the corner of Neyland and Joe Johnson drives. Race start is 9 p.m. for all 5K participants. Kids’ 200-yard dash will take place beginning at 8:15 p.m. Participants can register online at www.raceit.com or by downloading a form from www.ktc.org. • Legacy Parks Foundation is hosting a series of guided hikes on local trails this summer. Program is free of charge and appropriate for families who want to get outdoors and get active.
