• CRAWLEY, Vernon R.,
age 81, of Knoxville passed away early Tuesday morning, June 14, 2011. Vernon was a member of Victory Chapel Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Hazel Crawley; brothers, John, Bill, James and Al Crawley; sister, Marie Crawley Chadwick. He is survived by his wife, of 59 years, Edna Wallace Crawley; son and daughter-in-law, Dana and Teresa Crawley; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat Grooms and husband, Jim, Jane Darnell and husband, Charles, Ruth Sands; brother, David Crawley and wife, Sylvia; several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Graveside service was Thursday at Edgewood Cemetery with the Rev. Kern Spangler officiating. • BLEVINS Jr., U.S. Army retired Col. Byron Cecil “Barney,”
age 76, of Knoxville passed away suddenly Monday morning, June 13, 2011. Col Blevins was a graduate of East High School and The University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and retired after 20 years of service. Col Blevins was preceded in death by his parents, Byron Cecil Blevins Sr. and Vivian Hux Blevins. He is survived by his brother, Stacy Blevins; and sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Winfred Davis;; nephews, Sean Davis and Justin Davis; niece, Melissa Davis; special friends, Joe and Phyllis Eddington, Kay Long. Graveside service was Friday at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors conferred by the U.S. Army. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice. • LANGMAN, Ruth Ann,
age 62, of Farragut, formerly of Lenox Dale, Mass., passed away Saturday morning, June 11, 2011. She was retired from Kimberly-Clark after 40 years of service. She was an avid family photographer, taking many pictures of every occasion. Ruth never failed to lighten a conversation with her wonderful sense of humor. She could instantly build a strong rapport with everyone she met, especially children. Her patience and kindness made her every kid’s best friend, and she cherished building those relationships. Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother and wife. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ida Gunthner Shaffer; brother, Thomas Shaffer. Ruth is survived by her husband of 25 years, Rodney Langman; son, Mitchell Langman; daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Jason Sumner; a granddaughter; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Alan North; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Anna Shaffer; sisters-in-law, Karen Shaffer and Laura Shaffer; many nieces and nephews. A Christian Wake Service was Tuesday in Click Funeral Home Farragut Chapel. A Mass was celebrated Wednesday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church with Father David Carter, celebrant. Interment followed in Lake View Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held in Lenox Dale at a later date.
