Continued shoulder issue means Vandy over Texas for Pfeifer

With Philip Pfeifer’s recurring shoulder problems, the former Farragut High School four-time All-state pitching ace turned out to have an easy decision about his future.

“As the summer follows, they don’t offer you at all until they see you throw,” Pfeifer said about the Texas Rangers organization, which drafted the 19-year-old lefty in the 44th round of this year’s Major League Baseball Draft.

As a result, Pfeifer will honor his National Letter of Intent and play baseball as a student-athlete at national powerhouse Vanderbilt.

“I feel the Rangers can respect that decision because of the trouble with my arm,” said Pfeifer, who missed much of his senior season with a shoulder problem then diagnosed as tendonitis.
