Jones grabs 5 national gold

Farragut swimming enthusiast Judd Jones found a way to strike gold in Houston, Texas.

Competing in men’s 50-54 age division at 2011 Senior Games National Championships, Jones notched gold medal victories in five swimming events and took silver in a sixth.

He won 100- and 200-yard backstroke, the 200- and 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard individual medley. Jones took second place in the 50-yard backstroke.

“Any sport is great, the whole point is to stay active and healthy. But swimming gives you a whole-body workout, there’s virtually no impact, and very little chance of injury,” Jones said. “Heck, you can’t even fall down in this sport. When you’re in the water, you’ve already done all the falling down you can do.”

The next national competition will be in Cleveland, Ohio, in summer 2013.
