Siblings are good sports, rivals as Stingrays


Little brother finally passed up big sister this year in the 50-yard freestyle.

But a friendly sibling rivalry in the Barrett home, as exhibited through the Sugarwood Stingrays Swim Team, takes a back seat to having fun, demonstrating good sportsmanship and being a mentor.

Trey Barrett, 15, lost a 50-yard freestyle race to a competitor from Gulfwood during a dual meet at Sugarwood pool Thursday evening, June 30 — yet extended his hand in congratulations seconds after he finished.

“Whether you win or lose, you should always encourage whoever you're swimming against and have good sportsmanship,” Trey said.
