High School Golf Preview

A handful of Tennessee’s best high school golfers have something in common with the legend himself, Tiger Woods: they win championships yet change their swing.

And those who haven’t changed their swings have either changed their mental approach to the game or changed their clubs — or both — and enjoyed marked improvement.

Those changes apply to most of the 12 talented westside golfers profiled in 2011 farragutpress High School Golf Preview.

Of two Westside individual state champions in 2010 returning for more glory, one already has been offered a scholarship by The University of Tennessee.

Before her sophomore year begins, no less.

The other is enjoying even more course success following radical swing changes, prompted after going back to a reliable swing coach.

Meanwhile, one team is looking for its third consecutive state title in 2011.

Profiles focus on Farragut golfers Mitchell Thomas and Elizabeth Keeling, Hardin Valley Academy’s Wes Gosselin and Abby Dukes, and Bearden’s duo of Kelli Pemberton and Ben Reeves.

Among private Westside schools are profiles on Kory Webb and Sophia Schubert of Christian Academy of Knoxville, Kensi Wieland and Rob Talbott of Webb School of Knoxville, and Preston Tucker and Alexa Pavon of Knoxville Catholic High School.
