KIRK, MD, Clifford Carmack,
age 72, of Knoxville passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, July 15, 2011, at his home. Dr. Kirk was a member of First Baptist Church Concord. He graduated from The University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis. He served an internship at The University of Tennessee Hospital in Knoxville. This was followed by seven years in the U.S. Air Force where he was a flight surgeon with the 331st Fighter-Interceptor Squadron and then completed a radiology residency at Wilford Hall Hospital at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. He also served at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., attaining the rank of major. He practiced radiology at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville for 23 years, serving as chief of radiology toward the end of his medical career. He enjoyed grandchildren, traveling and sports, from playing football, basketball and baseball at Loudon High School to a lifetime of golf. He was an Eagle Scout and visited 101 different countries in the course of his lifetime travels. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Carmack Kirk Sr. and Anne Slusher Kirk; sister, Patricia Kirk Propst. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Rayder Kirk; daughters, Suzanne Kirk Greer, Dr. Caroline Kirk Elias and husband, Dr. David B. Elias; four grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Graveside service with full military honors was Tuesday at Lake View Cemetery with Chaplain Tom Rayford officiating.
