Hampton Inn now open


Hampton Inn & Suites manager Tom O’Neill is breathing deeply after making final preparations for Farragut’s newest hotel to open July 29.

“Farragut is a great place to build. Turkey Creek development — whether it’s in the City of Knoxville or in Farragut itself — is just huge and it’s a big draw. We want to have a presence here,” O’Neill said.

The four-story hotel with 105 rooms opened July 29 at 11340 Campbell Lakes Drive in Turkey Creek. Hotel amenities include a meeting space, outdoor pool, fire pit, fitness room, complimentary daily breakfast and free high-speed WiFi.

Farragut’s Hampton Inn & Suites has 46 rooms with double queen beds, 28 rooms with a king bed and 31 suites, all also with king beds.

“The suites are also going to have refrigerators and microwaves,” O’Neill said.

All of the rooms have wireless Internet access, as well as traditional hotel amenities such as hair dryers and coffee makers. All of the rooms also have a more unique offering — lap desks.


“They’re something nice for when there are multiple people in the room, and one person is at the desk and you have your laptop and are sitting on the bed,” O’Neill said.

O’Neill said he expects to see different travelers coming into the hotel.

“The Hampton brand is for anyone. The hotel changes clientele: during the week, it’s business travelers, predominantly. You get some walk-in traffic from people traveling the Interstate to their destination.

“Then, on the weekend, it’s completely leisure travel: people who come to Knoxville for sports events — football is a big draw during the football season — and youth sports is huge in Knoxville,” O’Neill said.

“So it completely transitions itself from a business hotel Monday through Thursday to a leisure hotel Friday and Saturday,” he added.

The hotel’s amenities are unique, designed to appeal to so many different types of travelers, O’Neill said.

The fitness room includes equipment with individual televisions, so each guest can watch his choice of programming, or none at all. The 600-square foot meeting space is available to guests, as well as available for rent by non-guests.

“We would rent it to you for whatever purpose you had: business meeting, wedding reception or birthday party,” O’Neill said.

The fire pit and “perfect mix lobby” (which has community and single table and chair set-ups) are new to Hilton hotels, O’Neill said. They encourage community among hotel guests.

“We’re trying to get people to come together,” O’Neill said.

Other features meant to encourage community include the hotel’s pedestrian connections.

“We included bike racks ... making sure the walkways were in front of the business so that guests could easily access the greenways behind and through Turkey Creek. The sidewalk goes right to it.

“As a selling point for a hotel, that’s great,” O’Neill said.

According to O’Neill, the hotel will employ 27 full-time staff, all “local, Tennessee” residents.

McKibbon Group, which owns and operates Hampton Inn & Suites, also manages other hotels along Parkside Drive.
