Talbott runner-up

Senior Rob Talbottís second-place individual state finished (36-33-69, 18 holes) followed by junior Jack Smith finishing tied for seventh (35-39-74) led their Webb Spartans to a third-place finish (304) during the rain-shortened Division II-A boys golf state tournament at WillowBrook, Manchester, Tuesday-Wednesday, Oct. 11-12.



Wieland ties for 7th

Webb junior golfer Kensi Wieland, defending Division II-A girls golf state champion, finished tied for seventh (76-90-166, 18 holes) during the rain-shortened 2011 state tourney at WillowBrook, Manchester, Oct. 11-12.


Irish fall to West

Touchdown runs of 3 and 2 yards from junior Nolan Coulter (129 yards on 20 carries) were not nearly enough points for Knoxville Catholic, losing its sixth straight game (2-6 overall, 0-5 in District 4-AAA) after a 34-14 setback to West Friday, Oct. 14, in KCHSís Blaine Stadium.



Soccer showdown?

Ending its regular season unbeaten at 17-0-2, the stateís No. 2 ranked Farragut Lady Admirals girls soccer team and No. 4 Bearden (15-2-1 regular season) were heavy favorites to meet for the District 4-AAA tourney title starting at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at Farragut Intermediate School field.



Knox Rotary win

Wins from David Hammontree, Dan Hipsher, Chris Bray, Tom von Berg and Bob Finelli gave Knoxville Breakfast Rotary Club a 5-3 team victory versus Farragut Rotary Club 5-3 during 6th Annual Rotary Cup Golf Tournament (18-hole match play) Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Willow Creek Golf Club.



Harkinsí Hole-in-One

Ben Harkins of Farragut Rotary Club nailed a hole-in-one on the 167-yard par 3 No. 14 hole despite his team losing to Knoxville Breakfast Rotary Club, 5-3, during 6th Annual Rotary Cup Golf tourney Oct. 12 at Willow Creek Golf Club.



Helbig new CAK coach

†A pro tennis instructor at Cedar Bluff Racquet Club, David Helbig is new tennis head coach at Christian Academy of Knoxville high school.
