Lady Hawks champs

With two goals from Ellie Myrick and one from Madison Lovelace, Hardin Valley Academy’s Lady Hawks soccer team (13-3-3) blanked top-seed Oak Ridge (16-4-1) to win the District 3-AAA tourney crown 3-0 at ORHS Friday evening, Oct. 21.



No. 1 CAK falls in OT

Ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, Christian Academy of Knoxville’s football team (7-2) fell at Class 6A LaVergne 43-42 in overtime Friday night, Oct. 21, thanks to a successful two-point conversion, as the home team (3-6) held the Warriors to 239 yards passing (19-of-38, two interceptions).


Region soccer clash?

With a win against Oak Ridge Tuesday, Oct. 25 (after deadline), Farragut’s undefeated and No. 2 state-ranked Lady Admirals soccer team (19-0-2) would play the Bearden versus Hardin Valley Academy winner (also played Tuesday) for the Region 2-AAA title at 7 p.m., tonight, Thursday, Oct. 27, at either HVA (if the Lady Hawks won) or at Farragut Intermediate School field (if BHS won).



CAK seeks region title

Ranked No. 1 statewide in Class A/AA, Christian Academy of Knoxville’s Lady Warriors soccer team (18-1-1) was a heavy favorite to beat Berean Christian Tuesday, Oct. 25 (after deadline) and play the winner of Kingston versus Gatlinburg-Pittman Thursday, Oct. 27 (site and time unknown at deadline).



HVA made sectional

With a thrilling five-set victory against Knoxville Catholic (28-27) — just two points from season elimination in the fourth game — Hardin Valley Academy’s volleyball team (42-17) earned a trip to Sectional play as Region 2-AAA runner-up Thursday, Oct. 20, where it lost at Sullivan South in straight games.



KCHS seniors praised

Despite Knoxville Catholic’s five-game loss to Hardin Valley Academy during Region 2-AAA Volleyball tourney at HVA Tuesday evening, Oct. 18 (ending 28-27), KCHS head coach Mike Jones praised Lady Irish seniors Laura McCarty and Kenzi Sawyer, plus team leader Stevie Gleason, for a solid season.



Bedwell world champ

Hannah Bedwell and her 9-year-old quarter horse gelding, Regal To A Tie, topped 70 other entries to be named “World Champion in Equitation Over Fences” at American Quarter Horse Youth World Show in Oklahoma City, Okla., Aug. 10.



Francona in Knox Co.

Terry Francona, two-time World Series champion manager with the Boston Red Sox, will be featured guest at 2012 Tennessee Baseball Leadoff Banquet at Knoxville Convention Center, starting with a reception at 5 p.m. (For more information, call 865-974-9001).
