Farragut edges MW after third win versus BHS

Undefeated and No. 2 state-ranked Farragut went three halves without scoring during Region 2-AAA and Sectional girls soccer play last week.

But these dry spells didnt keep FHS (22-0-2) out of the Class AAA state tourney this week in Chattanooga after edging Morristown West 1-0 in Sectionals Saturday, Oct. 29, at Farragut Intermediate School field.

State tournament play ends with the championship game at Girls Preparatory School starting at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 5.

Holding MWHS (16-4-0) without a shot on goal while putting 22 on net, Farragut earned its first state tourney since 2006 on a first-half goal from senior forward Skylar Brewer. She scored from five yards out, assisted by a left corner crossing pass from junior Brooke Rhodes at the 13:43 mark.

After scoring five goals in the final 32 minutes to blank Oak Ridge 5-0 in the region semifinals Oct. 25, FHS slipped past Bearden 1-0 for the region crown Oct. 27 its third win versus BHS (18-4-1) in 2011.

Sweeper Josie Jennings, praised for her defense by FHS skipper Dennis Lindsay, said after the Bearden win, I think its our year to go all the way.

Lilly Moore took a rebounded long shot from Brewer, which deflected off the goalkeeper, and scored from five yards out with 27:44 left in the first half.

Against OR (16-5-0), Moores two goals led the way, while midfielder Joanda Parchman added three assists. Senior midfielder Amy Albaugh said she was in pure shock after her 40-yard shot made it 2-0. Brewer and Blair Rhodes also scored.
