Landmark restaurant closes doors
Ott’s Bar-B-Que shuts down for second time

A Farragut icon is gone.

Ott’s Bar-B-Que, reopened in 2009 at the corner of Kingston Pike and South Hobbs Road, has closed.

Knick and Noah Myers, of Myers Bros. Holdings, who own the property, expressed their sorrow that Ott’s was closing.

“So many people have shared their memories with me of driving to Dixie Lee Junction in the 1970s or 1980s to purchase a few pounds of pulled pork from Ott’s Bar-B-Que,” Noah said.

“That is what makes the closing of Ott’s so disappointing. Knick and I don’t know what the future holds for Ott’s; however, based on the number of inquires that we have had on the location, we don’t believe that the building will be empty for long,” he added.

Ott’s owner Mike Masters couldn’t be reached for comment.

A sign on a dry erase board near Ott’s front door reads, “To all our loyal customers we have decided to close Ott’s BBQ and move to Northshore Drive. Please follow us on Facebook for updates. Thank you so much.”

The sign also gives a telephone number for more information.

The number wasn’t working.

Knick and Noah said they’d had several interested parties express ideas for the Ott’s space.

“We have had folks inquire about everything from offering traditional Mexican food to French crepes.  In addition to food concepts, we have a dentist, a law firm, and a roofing company inquiring about locating in the Ott’s building,” Knick said.

“We are seeking a new tenant that has the ingredients for success,” he added.

The Myers brothers said they’d welcome ideas from farragutpress readers about just what they’d like to see come into the former Ott’s space.

The original Ott’s Barbecue closed in 2003 after 40 years of business in Farragut. Owners Doug, David and Rick Frost closed the doors after inheriting the business from their parents, Carolyn and Richard. The restaurant was begun by Ott(o) and Thelma Melott in 1963.
