Black Friday sales hit record

• According to a report from ShopperTrak, which monitors foot traffic in malls and stores, Black Friday retails sales were up almost 6.6 percent this year, to an estimated $11.4 billion.



Unemployment down in October

• State Labor and Workforce Development announces Tennessee’s unemployment rate fell to 9.6 percent in October while national unemployment rate was 9 percent.



State spending hearings end

• Gov. Bill Haslam’s series of hearings on state spending ended Monday with a final budget presentation from TennCare.


Restaurant opens second Knox spot

• Noodles & Company, which opened its first Knoxville location in Turkey Creek last year, opened its second spot near The University of Tennessee campus last month.



Tennova launches branding campaign

• Tennova Healthcare has launched a new multimedia branding campaign called “It’s Good!” featuring people in situations with arms raised in a positive way.



Commission approves ridgetop plan

• Knox County Commission approved the Ridgetop and Hillside Protection Plan with an amendment from District 5 Commission Richard Briggs that the plan be considered “advisory in nature.”
