Angelo’s has new owners

A former Farragut High School student and his family have purchased Angelo’s Brick Oven, 175 Kelsey Lane in Lenoir City, and are ready to announce the restaurant’s grand re-opening to showcase what it means to be “Italian with a side of Southern.”

“We didn’t want to completely change it,” Ryan Dix, co-owner of Angelo’s, said.

“It’s still an Italian casual restaurant and pizzeria. We kept all the really good stuff that the former owner had developed on the menu, but then we’ve also kind of added what I’ll call my family’s favorites into the mix. We’re adding a Southern twist,” he added.

“We’ll be rolling out our new menu at the grand re-opening. You’ll notice all those classic pasta and Italian dishes on there, but you’ll also see shrimp and grits, and classic favorites like a bacon cheeseburger. You’ll also see our signature dessert, deep fried Oreos a la mode,” Dix, an FHS graduate, said.

Dix and his wife, Sarah, currently live in Washington, D.C., but hope to return to East Tennessee.

Dix indicated distance isn’t an issue because “My business partners are my family members. We have family owners on the ground overseeing the day-to-day management of the restaurant.”

His brother, Mark, is kitchen manager and executive chef. His mother, Teri, is the events and customer experience manager.

“At the end of the day, it’s my mother’s hospitality that sets the customer-focused culture of our business,” Dix said.

“She’s going to do everything in her power to make the experience right for your family. Period.”

His father, Ron, a 33-year consumer packaged goods marketing veteran, is within a few years of retirement and pitches in wherever he’s needed. Dix’s aunt, Lisa Hoch, is the administrative manager.

“It’s really a family business,” he added. “We had a major family meeting at our annual summer vacation and decided to purchase the business. It’s now been almost four months, and we’re ready to officially announce our grand re-opening.”
