Town releases 3Q red-light stats

Farragut released its red-light camera violation statistics for the 2011 third quarter enforcement period of July 1 through Sept. 30.

During that time:

• 3,267 incidents were recorded

• 982 incidents were rejected by the reviewing officer

• 1,272 incidents were not processed by Redflex due to technical issues or lack of information

• 1,014 citations were issued

Due to the change in state of Tennessee law, Traffic Enforcement Program manager Ben Harkins rejected 667 right turn on red incidents, as well as 12 straight through incidents. These numbers are included in the above statistics.

“As a result of the change in state law, effective July 1, 2011, total incidents are down by almost 38 percent from the second quarter,” Harkins said.

“We averaged 11 citations per day, which is less than three citations per intersection each day for the third quarter,” he added.

Harkins strongly urges anyone receiving a citation to review the video of the incident online before deciding what course of action they will take. The instructions for reviewing a video online at www.photonotice.com are located on the citation.

According to Harkins, Many citizens who believe they did not violate the law change their minds after reviewing their video.
