BHS, West split

In District 4-AAA, BHS girls hoops (10-1, 4-0) won 47-37 against West Friday at WHS, while the Bulldog boys (7-5, 3-1) lost 58-47 to the Rebels (7-2, 3-1).



FHS, HVA, BHS signings

• A.J. Simcox, FHS baseball senior shortstop, signed with The University of Tennessee Thursday, Nov. 10.

• Signing with Tennessee Tech, Cookeville, Nov. 14, was Mitchell Thomas, an FHS senior golfer.

• Hunter Arnold, HVA senior golfer, signed with Armstrong Atlantic State (Ga.) University, NCAA Division II, Nov. 9.

• Signing with The University of Tennessee Chattanooga Nov. 9 was HVA senior golfer Wes Gosselin.

• On Nov. 18, HVA volleyball defensive specialist Payton Walker, a senior, signed with NAIA's Bryan College, Dayton.

• Kelli Pemberton, BHS senior golfer, signed with Carson-Newman College, NCAA Division II, Nov. 9.

• Signing with The University of Tennessee-Martin Nov. 9 was BHS senior golfer Ben Reeves.

• BHS baseball infielder Derek Lance, a senior, signed with The University of Tennessee Nov. 9.

• Senior Ally Hardesty, BHS swimming freestyle specialist, signed with the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Nov. 15.

• Signing National Letter of Intent papers Nov. 15 with Tennessee State University, Nashville, was Kiarra Freemen, BHS senior outfielder.

• Amanda Dunaway, BHS senior softball catcher/third baseman, signed with NAIA's Milligan College, Johnson City, Nov. 18.


Colquitt NFL's No. 1

Britton Colquitt, Denver Broncos punter (BHS 2003), leads the NFL with a 47.9 average (85 punts) through 14 games.



Despite loss, six Hawks win

Despite a 42-32 wrestling home loss to Greeneville Saturday, six HVA Hawks won: Tim Vara (6-2, at 160); David Vaigneur (forfeit, 182); Jonah Weston (pin, 285); Anthony Moore (pin, 126); Jackson Beggs, (technical fall, 138) and Robby Goldshot (pin, 145).



Bearden/Karns ties Warriors

Though still seeking its first hockey win of the season, BHS-Karns (0-1-3) managed a 3-3 tie against KAHA No. 1 Warriors (3-0-1) Thursday at the Icearium.



Hockey schedules

KAHA High School teams off until Thursday night, Jan. 12: Farragut versus Bearden/Karns starting at 7:40 in the Icearium; Warriors versus Whalers, 9:10 p.m.



Wrestling schedules

• FHS wrestling team, no games scheduled during remainder of 2011.

• Hardin Valley Academy wrestling hosts East Hamilton, Ooltewah, starting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 22; Alcoa Duals at AHS Friday, Dec. 30.

• Bearden wrestling team hosting Bearden Duals, 3 p.m., Dec. 23.
