Concord dog park targets spring opening

West Knox Countians will have a puppy play place before the weather gets too warm.

Construction on the county’s fourth dog park is underway off Northshore Drive between the Concord Road roundabout and Westland Drive.

“It’ll probably be open in the spring. We’ve got some paving to do and some planting to do,” said Rebekah Jane Montgomery, of Knox County’s parks and recreation department.

“There’s going to be a small dog area and a large dog area, and a swimming area for the dogs with a jumping dock. It’ll be pretty neat,” Montgomery added.

Concord Dog Park is the fourth of five constructed in Knox County and Knoxville, paid for through a $500,000 donation from PetSafe. The other parks are located downtown, in South Knoxville and at Schumpert Park.

“This one is a pretty neat re-use of the old pool site there,” Montgomery said.
