First Baptist Church Concord’s Sager undergoes surgery

First Baptist Church Concord members learned Friday, Jan. 13, that the church’s senior pastor, Dr. Doug Sager, had undergone surgery that morning.

“Yesterday our pastor became ill and was taken to the hospital for some testing. This morning they elected to take him into surgery to correct some issues,” an e-mail sent to First Baptist Concord’s newsletter recipients said.

The letter was signed by Jeff Lawrence, FBC’s pastor of worship and spiritual development.

“I’m happy to report that the surgery was successful and he is resting comfortably tonight.  With continued care and healing, we hope that he’ll be released sometime next week,” Lawrence wrote.

Church spokeswoman Tiffany Roy said Wednesday, Jan. 18, that Sager’s surgery was simply to remove scar tissue from another procedure.

“He’s fine, doing great, and we’re expecting him back within the next two weeks,” Roy said.

In the newsletter, Lawrence said, “Brother Doug and Mrs. Faye would like to thank you for your concern, and would certainly covet your prayers as he continues to improve and recuperate. In addition, I’m sure you’ll understand that rest is not only necessary but vital — therefore I ask that you please not visit or call them at this time.

“Your prayers will be the greatest gift you can offer,” he added.
