Annual Fun With Farragut Fleet Aug. 13

Area children have an opportunity to climb aboard dump trucks, emergency vehicles and tow trucks when town of Farragut sponsors the 15th Annual Fun with Farragut’s Fleet.

The event, scheduled to take place from 9 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 13, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park, 301 Watt Road, usually attracts about 800 to 900 attendees, Lauren Cox, Farragut Special Events and program coordinator, said.

“Fun with Farragut’s Fleet continues to grow in popularity because kids and adults alike love to see these vehicles and equipment in person and up close,” Cox said.

“We moved the event to Mayor Bob Leonard Park three years ago because our attendance continued to increase and we outgrew the Town Hall parking lot,” she added.

“The guys really enjoy seeing the kids get on all the equipment and having fun playing, plus it is fun to watch the dads looking at the equipment up close, wishing they could use it but pretending not to be equally excited as the kids,” Bud McKelvey, Public Works director, said.

“Fun with Farragut’s Fleet gives children the opportunity to see, touch and climb on a variety of trucks, large equipment and emergency vehicles used by town of Farragut, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Moneymakers Wrecker Service and Rural-Metro Inc., as well as learn about the jobs of the people who operate the vehicles,” Chelsey Riemann, Farragut Public Relations coordinator, said.

Equipment at Fun with Farragut’s Fleet will include a backhoe, dump truck, fire truck and police car.

Town of Farragut Public Works and Parks & Leisure Services staff members will join representatives from emergency organizations to explain how the equipment is used and to answer any questions.

Another new feature is offered by HIS Security, LLC, a locally owned and operated security company that will provide children’s photo and fingerprint identification cards. Knoxville Moms Blog will sponsor the snack tent, and the Town will provide a make-and-take craft.

Fun with Farragut’s Fleet is free and open to the public. Mayor Bob Leonard Park is located off Watt Road less than a mile north of Kingston Pike.
